Is the CoC Gold Pass Worth It? Cost, Rewards & Gem Value
Five dollars buys you 500 gems in the Clash of Clans shop. Alternatively, you can spend seven dollars on the Gold Pass. That second purchase gives you Books, Runes, a 20% discount on upgrades for a month, and a five-times multiplier on your end-of-season loot.
What Is the Clash of Clans Gold Pass?

The Gold Pass is the monthly progression backbone, with each season lasting one calendar month.
The Gold Pass unlocks a parallel premium track and account-wide, season-long perks. Players climb both tracks using Season Points. Since the March 1, 2026 Gold Pass rework, these points come from a completely new system.
You now complete eight always-available Daily Tasks based on normal gameplay to earn stamps; these stamps fill Stamp Cards, and completed cards then award you with Season Points. And because cards never expire and a new card stacks up every day, missing a weekend won't ruin your progress; clearing the full track requires 2,600 Season Points.
Two other major changes reshape progression: Choice Nodes let you choose between two different rewards at specific tiers instead of taking a predetermined item; the old Season Bank has been replaced by the Hoggy Bank (starting at maximum size for everyone and no longer requires upgrades).
How Much Does the Gold Pass Cost?
The base price is $6.99 USD (raised from $4.99 in July 2023), and your cost varies based on local taxes and currency conversion rates.
The Gold Pass is a one-time purchase for a single season. You won't have to face any recurring charges on the first of the month. For you to continue with the pass, you'll need to buy it again manually.
Purchasing from the official Supercell Store introduces a different mechanic; the pass is delivered directly to your Supercell ID inventory instead of activating immediately, letting you store up to eight passes at once and choose which month to activate.
You can choose to skip tiers on the reward track by spending 90 gems per tier. Using gems to complete the entire pass is an inefficient use of resources. But spending them to finish the last few levels is fine.
What Do You Get With the Gold Pass?
Free (Silver) Pass Rewards
Non-payers still receive excellent rewards from the game. A typical season's free track distributes around 3 million Gold and Elixir each, 30,000 Dark Elixir, Builder Base resources, Capital Gold, a variety of potions, and chests containing random Ores or cosmetics.
The Hoggy Bank provides Silver players up to 8 million Gold and Elixir plus 2 million Builder resources, with the exact amounts scaling to your specific Town Hall level.

Gold Pass Gem Value: Is It Actually a Good Deal?

Total |
|
| 11,010 gems |
Based on the US rate of 500 gems for $4.99, a $6.99 purchase gives you $110 in shop value. This total excludes the skin, extra resources, discounts, and the Hoggy Bank. And because Supercell prices magic items at premium rates instead of fair market value, no reasonable player spends 3,000 gems on a Rune of Dark Elixir. Your haul also varies because of Choice Nodes, and players at low Town Halls never even receive heavy Runes at all. So even if you slash that official total by two-thirds, you still get about 3,600 gems for seven dollars.
To find the true break-even point, let's look at the Builder Boost (all while ignoring the magic items entirely). Upgrades for heavy defense or Town Hall cost over 15 million Gold at Town Hall 15 and above. A 20% discount saves you around 3 million Gold per upgrade. You can save 36 million Gold at the absolute minimum. That amount equals more than two full Gold Runes.
In practice, active players recover their initial $6.99 investment in four to six days by keeping their lab and builders busy. Every reward after that becomes profit, and this calculation doesn't even include the 5x Hoggy Bank payout.
Is the Gold Pass Worth It for Your Playstyle?

Active, Daily Players
Buy for a reason. If your builders and lab are never idle, the pass is the best-value buy in the game. You'll hit 2,600 Season Points easily. With discounts compounding across dozens of upgrades and the Hoggy Bank filling up passively from farming, it makes for a smart investment.
Casual or Low-Login Players
This is where the pass gets oversold since discounts only pay out when you start an upgrade. Finished builders sitting idle for four days provide you nothing.
The solution is to buy through the Supercell Store. Bank the pass in your Supercell ID inventory, and activate it during a month you'll actually be most active. Perfect times include holidays, a war push, or a big Town Hall jump.
Rushed or Newly Bought Accounts
Nobody talks about it, but this is the strongest argument for the pass per dollar. A rushed base has a massive backlog of upgrades that are cheap relative to its Town Hall level. Consequently, the 20% discount applies across fifteen or twenty upgrades instead of just two massive ones. Because the laboratory is even further behind the main base, the Research Boost has an even bigger impact than it does on a maxed account.
If you have taken over a mid-progress base and are staring at a massive catch-up queue, the pass makes your progress faster.
But a warning: the discount is a percentage of loot that you still have to farm. If you can't keep your builders fed, the pass mostly just buys cosmetics. Fix your farming habits first if you're going to commit to buying a pass.
Maxed-Out or High Town Hall Accounts
There are diminishing returns, but they never drop to zero; once you max out your base and finish the laboratory, the builder and research discounts have nothing left to discount. The real, actual value comes from the Prospector (converting Shiny Ore to Starry Ore daily) alongside the extra equipment Ore on the reward track.
My advice is to buy it if you're going to grind your equipment to epic level, and skip it if you don't care about the hero skin.
Gold Pass vs. Buying Gems or Resources Directly
The pass easily wins on value per dollar. But it's slow and conditional. You must be active and play to get what you paid for. Gems and resource top-ups offer the opposite trade-off: they are more expensive per unit and more certain.
This certainty is why players skip the season grind and handle upgrades directly. Topping up gems gets you the Rune or the Builder Potion tonight instead of on day 21 of a progress track grind. Others buy a more advanced account rather than paying for four consecutive passes.
Neither method replaces the Gold Pass.
Tips for Getting the Most Value From the Gold Pass

● Buy the pass on day 1 or 2; the Builder Boost offers the greatest value. But it only applies to upgrades you start while it's active. A pass bought on day 25 wastes most of what you paid for.
● Queue your heaviest upgrade while the boost is active. A 20% cut on a 20-million-Gold build is worth more than the same discount on a cheap one.
● Spend Runes on your scarcest resource. For most mid-level Town Halls, that means Dark Elixir instead of Gold.
● Avoid hoarding Books. If you have a Book of Heroes gathering dust for three months, then it's just 500 gems doing nothing.
● Watch your magic item storage limits closely. Runes, boost potions, Super Potions, and Pet Potions can be used straight from the reward track, but Supercell confirmed that this direct-use option disappears if that item's storage is already full.
● Lean heavily on the final week. Stamps and completed cards pay bonus Season Points in the last seven days; a slow start is recoverable.
When to Skip the Gold Pass
Skip the pass if you already know the month will be busy. This includes exams, travel, a work crunch, or anything that keeps you off the game for a week or two. You should also skip if you're maxed out, don't care about hero skins, and aren't chasing equipment level.
Skip it if you only boot up and play twice a week. The pass rewards are worth the investment if you're actively farming.
