How to Redeem Fortnite Gift Cards and V-Bucks Codes
After nearly eight years, Epic has killed off the V-Bucks card and replaced it with Fortnite Gift Cards, which are more like a loaded debit card for use with your Epic Games account. Let's take a look at how this new card works and how it compares to the old one.
New Fortnite Gift Cards vs. Old V-Bucks Cards
Redeeming a V-Bucks card was similar to buying a fixed amount of V-Bucks. By contrast, the new Fortnite Gift cards convert to a specified dollar value, such as $15, $30, $50, or $100, or even custom amounts up to $150. This balance can then be used to buy V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew subscriptions, in-game packs, or even games on the Epic Games Store.
Anyone who redeems a new Fortnite Gift card before December 31, 2026, will receive the exclusive GHOST Monks outfit for free. This is an early-adopter reward that will be released in 2027.
How to Redeem Your Gift Card or V-Bucks Code
Scratch the back of the card to reveal the code.
Follow the link to fortnite.com/vbuckscard (old V-Bucks card) or epigames.com/redeem (new Fortnite Gift card).
Log in to your Epic account.
Type in the code without any dashes and click on “Get Started”.
Select your platform and confirm.
Note: This is the end of the entire process for players on PC, Mobile, and Nintendo Switch. But for PlayStation and Xbox, there's an additional required step.
For PlayStation: The redemption website will generate a 12-character PS Store code. You'll need to head to the PS Store, select your profile, tap Redeem Codes, and enter the code there.
For Xbox: You get a 25-character Microsoft code instead. Visit microsoft.com/redeem or use the Microsoft Store on your console to redeem.

If you want to redeem any codes, make sure that your Epic Games account is linked to your device first. To connect your accounts, go to epicgames.com and sign in, then navigate to Account > Apps and Accounts. Here you can link your Nintendo, PlayStation, or Xbox account. This step requires you to already have an Epic Games account, which is free if you don't already have one.
The Fortnite Shared Wallet (and Why Nintendo Is Different)
Fortnite makes use of a shared wallet system for any purchased V-Bucks, including those from gift cards that can be used across platforms, accessible through the wallet icon in the Fortnite shop or web item shop. This means that your V-Bucks will appear when you play Fortnite across Android, Mac, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Notably, Nintendo is absent, with V-Bucks for the platform remaining locked to the Nintendo platform entirely.
Any V-Bucks purchased on Nintendo devices are shared across Switch and Switch 2, but not on any other platform. Additionally, this restriction only applies to purchased V-Bucks, meaning those that you earn in-game are still shared across all platforms.
When Your Code Won't Redeem
Invalid Code: This likely indicates typos; check for dashes in the PIN. And if you're using the old V-Bucks card, make sure you're on the correct redemption page, since the new Fortnite Gift card uses a different page for redemption.
Card Inactive: This means that the retailer did not activate the card at checkout. You'll need to contact support for assistance or go back to the shop to have it activated, so don't forget your receipt.
Region Mismatch: Be mindful of the country flag on any card you purchase. The country on the card needs to match the account's region; otherwise, the redemption process won't work.
V-Bucks not appearing after console code redemption: Xbox and PlayStation players will need to complete the extra step after redeeming any codes through Fortnite's official redemption page. It's only after doing that extra step that any V-Bucks are credited to your account.
Get More V-Bucks for Your Money
V-Bucks now cost more as of March 2026, with 800 of the in-game currency now priced at $8.99 from the previous 1000 V-Bucks at the same price. If you'd like to get better prices for your V-Bucks purchase, igitems site has top-up options that offer much better value. You can also grab loaded Fortnite accounts to skip any game grind.
The new Fortnite Gift card might take some getting used to, but we can also see it as an upgrade, since it offers more flexibility to spend on items beyond just V-Bucks. You also get a free GHOST Monks skin, so give it a shot. Just remember the proper redemption to avoid any troubles.
