Honkai: Star Rail Character Tier List

Honkai: Star Rail Character Tier List

Our Honkai: Star Rail tier list ranks every character in Version 4.2. See which HSR characters dominate Pure Fiction, Memory of Chaos, and Apocalyptic Shadow.

Last updated:

Honkai Star Rail has over 80 characters, but not every one performs well, especially in end-game content. Some work in almost any team composition, while others only work in very specific lineups. With the arrival of 4.0 penalizing outdated comps, knowing the current meta gives you a reliable base for team building.

How Honkai: Star Rail Characters are Ranked

Characters are ranked at Eidolon 0 with their best 4-star Light Cone. There are three main factors: Endgame mode clear times (Pure Fiction, Memory of Chaos, Apocalyptic Shadow), team flexibility, and skill-point economy. Characters that fare well in only one area generally rank low.

But if you'd rather skip the grind, get a stacked Honkai Star Rail account from igitems to jump straight to endgame.

S Tier

These S-tier characters define the current meta and set the benchmark for all other units. They excel across multiple endgame modes and often enable entire team archetypes.

  • Phainon leads as the premier Remembrance DPS, delivering exceptional damage at all investment levels.
  • Castorice anchors Remembrance teams as both damage dealer and pseudo-sustain, providing crucial team stability.
  • The Herta dominates Pure Fiction with unparalleled AoE Erudition damage output.
  • Sunday offers universal support through his action-advance mechanics, compatible with virtually any DPS character.
  • Ruan Mei enables break compositions while providing team-wide buffs that scale across all content.
  • Robin delivers unmatched damage amplification for follow-up attack teams and action-advance strategies.
  • Aventurine provides premium sustain with offensive capabilities that complement aggressive team compositions.
  • Anaxa, Evernight, and Hyacine round out this tier with specialized roles that excel in their respective niches.

A Tier

A-tier characters represent strong meta options that excel in specific team compositions or content types. Tribbie enables mixed-Path synergies with her unique buffing mechanics. Firefly remains the ultimate super break carry, particularly dominant in Apocalyptic Shadow encounters. Lingsha and Acheron provide essential support and damage capabilities respectively. Feixiao delivers consistent hunt damage while Fugue enhances break team potential. Jade excels in multi-wave content, Huohuo offers reliable healing and energy support. Cyrene, Mydei, and Archer complete this tier with solid performance across various team archetypes and endgame scenarios.

B Tier

B-tier characters offer solid performance but face competition from higher-tier alternatives. Kafka and Black Swan anchor DoT teams effectively. Sparkle provides action-advance support, while Silver Wolf delivers defense shred utility. Himeko excels in break-focused AoE scenarios. Boothill and Topaz offer specialized damage profiles, with Yunli providing counter-attack strategies. Aglaea and Rappa round out this tier with niche applications that perform well in specific team compositions and content types.

C Tier

C-tier characters remain functional but have been largely superseded by newer alternatives. Jingliu and Bronya offer dated but workable damage and support respectively. Lynx provides basic sustain, while Moze, Gallagher, and Argenti fill specialized roles in budget compositions.

D Tier

D-tier characters struggle in the current meta landscape. Seele, March 7th, and Blade face significant power creep challenges, requiring substantial investment for modest returns in endgame content.

Making the most of 4.0 and the Future

With huge changes in the HSR meta from new characters in 4.0, it shouldn't come as a surprise if 4.1 shakes things up just as much. If you're looking to invest in meta safe characters, look toward versatile support units such as Robin and Sunday, which are beneficial to almost any DPS character.
