Fallout 76 is a post-apocalyptic action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the ninth game in the Fallout series and serves as a spin-off prequel to the series. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 14, 2018.
In Fallout 76, players explore an open-world wasteland set in West Virginia four years after the nuclear apocalypse. The game features real-time combat, a new building system, and all-new characters and player interactions.
The game has been met with mixed reviews from critics. While many praised the game's worldbuilding and graphics, the game's use of microtransactions and multiplayer-specific features were criticized.
The game, like the Fallout series in general, is set in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a nuclear war between the U.S. and China as part of an ongoing cold war. The player character is a survivor of Vault 76, which is one of 17 vaults that are part of an extensive government experiment to create isolated communities. They will be tasked with rebuilding their own societies after humans go extinct in the event that the entire population should die out from nuclear fallout or other threats. Vault 76 was scheduled to open 20 years after being built so its inhabitants would have grown up having only known the sealed environment inside the vault, instead of being fully aware of their situation while growing up knowing they had been exiled from the outside.
Bottle caps, caps for short, are the main currency in Fallout 76. They can be used to purchase various items from merchants, including weapons, armor, and other supplies. Caps can also be used to fast travel between locations.
In order to obtain bottle caps, players can loot containers and enemies or trade with other players. Bottle caps can also be earned by completing quests or selling items to merchants.
The number of bottle caps a player has available can be seen in the bottom right corner of the screen. The number shown indicates how many bottle caps the player has in their possession. In order to collect bottle caps that have been dropped on the ground, players must walk over them and press the interact button (E key on PC, X button on PlayStation 4, A button on Xbox One). Bottle caps will then be automatically added to the player's inventory.
There are several ways to spend bottle caps in Fallout 76. Some of the most common uses include purchasing weapons, armor, and other supplies from merchants, as well as paying for fast travel between locations. Bottle caps can also be used to upgrade settlements and buildings.
Players who want to obtain more bottle caps can do so by completing quests, selling items to merchants, or looting containers and enemies. Caps can also be earned by participating in events and challenges. By collecting and spending bottle caps, players can help improve their chances of survival in the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 76.
Bottle caps act as the main currency in Fallout 76. Caps can be found throughout the world of Appalachia by killing enemies, opening containers, or breaking down items or weapons at certain crafting stations. However, when you level up your player experience in Fallout 76 you also get a small amount of
Bottle caps along with crafting materials - this is called a Vault Voucher. You may only receive one Vault Voucher every time you level up, which must be redeemed before actually receiving your bottle caps. If you don't want to wait until your next level to get your bottle caps, there are other ways to earn them.
Some of the more common ways are: completing Quests, selling items at Vendors, unlocking achievements, and picking locks (or hacking terminals) to find locked safes or chests. There are also a few rare ways to earn bottle caps which will be mentioned below.
One way to get a decent amount of caps quickly is to complete the Hostile Takeover Quest. This quest can be started by finding the Pistol Packing note on a table inside the train station in Grafton. The note tells you to go meet Preston Garvey at the Castle. Once you arrive, speak with Preston, and he will give you the Hostile Takeover Quest, which entails taking over the Regional Radio Station. You can complete this through dialogue or by killing everyone inside. However, if you choose to use violence, then you must also destroy all their radios in order for them not to call reinforcements. Once you've completed this quest, you will receive 300 bottle caps.
The other way to collect a decent amount of bottle caps is by playing the Wheeling Rumors you can pick up at any terminal. These are short, random quests that give you caps for completing them. There are three different types of Wheeling Rumors: Courier, Kill and Collect. If you complete these quests, it would be best to do so during the day, as it has been reported that you will earn high caps at night.
There are other ways to earn bottle caps that are even rarer, but they are usually better because of the number of caps earned. These include: lockpicking safes or locked containers, opening locked supply crates around Appalachia, finding hidden caches in trash cans/corpses/etc., and defeating Legendary Enemies. Basically, anything that normally gives you loot can also give you bottle caps - explore every nook and cranny.
One last thing to note is that if you aim to use bottle caps as your main form of currency, then saving them up until level 50 would be a good idea. At level 50 you are able to convert 100 gold into 1000 bottle caps. So start saving up those caps and get ready to spend them on some sweet new gear.
