Measure Damage per Second With the Old School RuneScape Combat Calculator
OSRS is well known for its extremely deep and complex RPG and character growth systems, where DPS serves as a key metric in OSRS for evaluating combat effectiveness. With such complicated calculations required to determine the damage you can potentially do, it helps OSRS players to have a reliable tool for detailed DPS calculation for testing various builds. The OSRS DPS calculator provides accurate, reliable, and detailed damage-per-second figures that help determine DPS for practical use in boss fights.
Using the calculator is fairly simple, though it requires players to input several figures accurately. For more useful tools, head over to igitems, where you'll also find a safe and secure platform for game items and accounts trading.
The DPS calc works best if you have a better understanding of the game's mechanics. Let's get to know the various factors affecting your character's combat proficiency.
The DPS Calculator and Using Character Skills
Using the calculator mainly involves setting the character's attack levels and testing multiple gear setups to find optimal combinations. You'll also need to input the target enemy and any special attack settings, as well as your combat options. Click on the 'Calculate DPS' button to get your final DPS and time to kill calculations.
Understanding OSRS Skills to Use the Combat Calc
Skills of your OSRS account refer to a character's attributes that represent their abilities in the game's various activities, including combat. In most other games, OSRS skills are called stats. These skills are further subdivided into four types based on the game activities for which they are useful.
7 combat-oriented skills grow through limited means. Let's go over each combat skill to better understand each one and how to use them in the calculator.
Attack
Represents a character's hit chance in combat. This grows most effectively through the use of an accurate or controlled attack style, with attack bonus affecting hit chance in melee combat, which affects weapon attack speed measured in game ticks (0.6 seconds each). This attribute also affects your accuracy roll and damage consistency.
Strength
This is your character's main attribute for dealing with melee DPS. A higher strength skill also raises your maximum hit, meaning your damage ceiling is higher, effectively ensuring more serious average damage. The most effective means of leveling this is through the use of an aggressive attack style in melee combat.
Defence
As the name suggests, defence represents your character's ability to protect itself in combat, though in a way that's a bit different from the usual defence stat. Instead of reducing damage, a higher defence skill results in a lower chance of enemy attacks landing a hit. But this applies to melee and ranged combat.
Magic DPS is affected by defence differently, with 30% of magic defense coming from the defence skill. In addition, certain levels of defence are also required to equip specific armor with OSRS gear bonuses.
Hitpoints
This skill works exactly as you'd expect, representing how much health or HP a character has. Unlike many of the other skills, there are many ways to gain experience and level up the hitpoint skill, including various types of combat using any style. Completing certain quests and interacting with specific items can also gain experience for a player's hitpoints attribute.
Ranged
This ranged skill enhances most of a character's abilities related to ranged combat and defense. This attribute increases ranged damage output, raises ranged maximum hit, improves ranged accuracy, and is one of the two stats required to equip better ranged armor (unlike melee gear, which requires attack or strength levels), with defence being the other required attribute.
Any ranged combat style earns experience for the ranged skill, making it a popular choice for slayer task completion.
Magic
Due to its many uses, the magic skill is considered one of the most important attributes. Aside from dealing magic damage, it also grants higher defense against magic attacks and grants access to various utility spells such as teleportation and alchemy.
This attribute is trained mainly through the use of spells in combat, although the defensive style in melee combat is also a good way to raise it even without access to high-level spells. At higher levels, High Level Alchemy is the best method to level your magic skill.
Prayer
The prayer attribute provides access to active prayers like piety, which are effectively player buffs that grant various potent effects at the cost of prayer points. With the character's prayer skill level being a direct equivalent to their prayer points, having a higher skill level is always a benefit.
Leveling the prayer skill involves any activities related to bones and the undead. Defeating reanimated corpses, offering bones to altars, and similar activities all grant experience for this attribute, while prayer potions restore points during combat.
